Basketball drills for technique attack / offense
- free play on 1 or 2 baskets,
- depending on the number of players.
- NO dribbles only passing.
Prerequisites:
players must master the layup at full speed
Goal:
reactquickly
on a stray ball and be able to finish the next 1 against 1
Organization:
- the trainer stands in the middle of the bucket and has the ball
- Two players on the elbow are only allowed to look straight ahead.
- trainer passes between the players
- they may only move when they see the ball
- the player who captures the ball scores on the opposite basket
- the other player tries to prevent this
- the coach makes his passes so hard that the players have to sprint to keep the ball in.
- n.b. the defender must not make any mistakes due to the risk of injuries
Teaching points:
- speed of action
- do not let the defender distract you
Variations:
- have players start sitting or lying down
- Put two players next to each other on the elbow, or with their backs against each other. Then play 2 against 2
- machine gun at players' elbows
Competition form.
- 2 groups against each other.
- You have to make 15 good lay-ups with your group.
- If you succeed, you sit down and you've won.
- As an extension of this, in two minutes you have to make as many lay-ups as possible with your group.
- At least 3 balls per group so you don't have to wait for the ball.
- The lay-up must at least have a two step rhythm otherwise it does not count.
- Approximately 4 to 5 minutes.
- The attackers are not allowed to move from their spot.
- They play the ball around and if they get the chance, they try to score
- The defenders have to run They try to prevent a goal from being scored
- When defenders are too static and stand by an attacker, you can do 3 things
- Or force the defenders to run by telling at least one of them to run towards the attacker with the ball
- Or tell the attackers they can take 2 steps.
- Or draw a square on the ground where the attackers can move.
- After 5 attempts, the defenders change with 2 new defenders.
- Centers + Guards + Forwards
- 3 Players
- 1 ball
- -a basket
- -2 Cones
Requirements :
Players must be able to dribble and run a layup
Goal :
- To finish off an overtime situation in 2-man break.
- train outlet pass
- to train running line flyer
Organization:
- the defender throws the ball against the board, left or right of the ring
- the attacker on the side of the board takes the outlet position and asks for the ball.
- The flyer sprints away towards the middle line.
- Flyer sprints around the pawn back to the basket.
- outlet dribbles as fast as possible around the other pawn
- the passer sprints to the centre circle, but has 1 foot in there and then goes to defend.
- attackers have 1 goal attempt and max 2 passes.
- the attacker who misses becomes the defender.
Teaching points
- the defender NOT to make any unsportsmanlike mistakes
- defender takes the charge or forces the dribbler to the side of the pitch
- One person shoots free throws.
- Two other players stand behind the one who throws the free throw.
- According to the rules of the game
- Once the ball is gone the three players go for the rebound.
- If the person who made the free throw has the ball, he can make another free throw.
- If he doesn't have the ball, the 2 other players go to the other side of the court to attack, 2 against 1.
- If attacker is pressured by defender then go to free man, otherwise keep going until lay-up.
- The next three players get ready to execute the exercise.
- Players stand ready at the halfway line. The first one has a ball (then 2 without the ball).
- X1 makes lay-up
- X2 takes rebound and passes in (after scoring!)
- X3 runs around the pot and starts defending
- X1 and X2 attack to the other ring
- variation: with 5
- X1 makes lay-up
- X2 takes rebound and gives in (after score!) to X3
- X3 dribbles over, X1 and X2 fill in the outer lines.
- X4 walks around the basket near the baseline and defends.
- X4 runs around the ball at the halfway line (other side) and defends.
- Two teams both 1 basket 1 team starts with the ball and plays 1v0 at the basket of the other team 1 chance
- Then the other team attacks the person from the first team now goes to defend 1v1 so in the other direction
- On this side, another person of the first team joins and it becomes 2v1
- Etc.
- three groups of two per basket
- try to make qualitatively equal pairs
- How?
- 1 pair in front, 2 in forward positions
- take turns making a drive, alternating attack/defence
- First of the pair to have 5 points, wins.
Requirements:
players must be able to run a lay up from a bounce pass
Goal: learn
how to punish the overplaying of the forward by an aggressive defense
Organization:
- guard dribbles up from behind the centre circle
- at the same moment the centre 4 comes to the elbow
- and player 3 sprints to the pawn
- 1 passes to 4 with a bounce pass
- 3 sprints to the basket with a sharp change of direction and speed
- and receives the bounce pass from 4
Rotation:
- 4 grabs the rebound
- and takes the ball on the back line
- 3 goes to defend the inbound pass
- when 9 receives the ball, 7 takes position at the sideline for the next inbound pass
- 4 and 5 do not rotate but take turns.
- 1 joins the line behind the pawn
- 9 passes the ball to 8 and joins the row behind it
Variation:
- 1 pretends he is going to put a screen away on the weak side, but cuts to 4 for a hand off
- takes the shot
- OR plays pick and roll with 4
Teaching Points:
- Sprint to the pawn: when passing, you as the attacker must take the defender well outside the three-point line to make enough space for the backdoor.
- 1 has to feint immediately after the pass to be in time for the hand off.
- The player gets the ball thrown to you
- Do a crossover and shoot the ball at the first position
- Do the same at the second position
- And so on
