Basketball drills for technique rebounding
- 4X4 or 5X5.
- Half Field.
- Only the defending team can score points through:
- Turnover
- Rebound
- When the attacking side scores there is a switch, so the attackers start defending and the defenders start attacking.
- The team that scores 5 points first has won.
- Losers 10 push ups.
- Blue makes a board pass to the right of the hoop and sprints left around the pillon to the opposite side.
- White catches the ball in the air and makes a board pass, sprints right around the pillon and sprints toward the center line.
- Red catches the board pass, turns up the right side already in the air, makes an outlet pass to White and sprints across.
- White makes a long pass to blue and sprints across.
- Blue makes a layup and sprints across the right side to the other side.
- White sprints past the left pillon and sprints across again.
- Red grabs the rebound and makes another outlet pass to white.
- White passes to blue again.
- Blue makes a layup... etc, etc
- High tempo.
- Try to execute this drill without a dribble.
- Clearly call Outlet.
- How many times can you score without letting the ball touch the ground?
- Player 1 sets up under the board with a ball.
- Player 1 jumps 3 times and taps the board with the ball after which he finishes.
- Player 2 takes the rebound and passes to player 3.
- At the same time player 1 runs to player 3 where he pulls the ball out of his hands -giving resistance- and immediately goes to the hoop to score.
- He takes his own rebound and repeats the exercise.
- Starting lineup:
- 1 player at the free throw line
- 5 players stand around the bucket
- Course:
- Player takes the free throw
- Other players fight for the rebound
- 1 point if you score the free throw
- 1 point if you take the rebound
- Play to 5 points
- Each in turn, shuffle through clockwise
- Progression:
- 2 points if it is an offensive rebound
- Play to 7 points
- Regression:
- Having fewer players rebound
- Four players stand in defensive position.
- Coach throws the ball against the board.
- Player 4 takes the rebound and passes the ball to player 2.
- Player 2 receiving the ball:
- Receives the ball and watches.
- Dribbles into the lane just off the center circle.
- Player 1 on the ball side:
- Sprints into the lane next to the sideline and looks over his inside shoulder to stay within passing range.
- Is first option in the start of the fastbreak.
- Player 3 on the non-ball side:
- Sprints down the lane next to the center circle and looks over inside shoulder to stay within passing range.
- Does not go through the center circle if he/she cannot go to score.
- Player 4 may go take the rebound.
- 2 players low -team blue-
- 2 players high
- 1 player, not actively involved in the game, on the baseline
- 1 player, not actively involved in the game, around the 3-point line
- Player on the baseline passes tightly to the player standing around the 3 point line
- Player on the 3 point line shoots
- Team blue provides a good close out
- Team red and blue fight for the rebound
- After the rebound there is a 2 vs. 2 situation and they continue until there is a score
- Explain well in advance what constitutes a good close out
- With a large group, divide the players over several baskets
Option 1
- Blue runs to the middle and receives the pass from orange
- Orange then fills in blue
- White and Red come up at the same time that orange passes to blue
- White receives the pass from blue at the free throw line and faces the basket
- Red accelerates somewhere near the free throw line and heads for the basket
- White passes to red and red makes a layup
Option 2
- After orange passes to blue, orange also cuts across the right side and there is a second playoff opportunity for white.
Option 3
- Orange and blue continue to cut in and white takes a shot
- Orange and blue fight for the rebound and a score
* After building this exercise up to Option 3, players must be sharp, there can always be a pass or fight for the rebound.
* There is no dribbling
* Rotation is counterclockwise
* There is no dribbling
* Rotation is counterclockwise
- Setup
- 2 groups on the forward
- Coach misses a free throw.
- 2 players fight for the rebound.
- Player who scores gets 1 point.
- Setup:
- 2 groups
- 1 offence elbow, 1 defense baseline
- Coach passes to 1 of 2 players in offence.
- Player shot.
- Defense does close out.
- Defense does boxing out.
- Intention is to take rebound.
- Offense becomes defense.
- Player A shoots from 10 different positions, with Player B rebounding and passing tight passes to Player A.
- 10x shots are made from each position.
- Both players take their turn.
- You have about 20 minutes to have both shot, if this is not the case there is a suicide.
- The goal of this exercise is to focus purely on your form.
At the end of the exercise you are asked which of the two has scored the most.
The losing player runs a suicide, should the score be forgotten, both players run a suicide.
The losing player runs a suicide, should the score be forgotten, both players run a suicide.
- 1 or 2 rows just below the board on either side of the basket.
- Make sure there are at least 4 players per row.
- Ball is thrown against the board next to the basket and "tipped" into the tide by the next player (catch it two hands and throw it back to the board immediately).
- The third player catches this ball again, etcetera.
- After the action, a player closes behind the (other) row.
- The exercise is finished when a minimum number of successful tips in a row have been achieved (without the ball touching the ground).
- Variation:
- Players must pass behind the coach before they may rejoin the (other) row.
- The coach walks backwards slowly, which means they have to run harder. (This is a must with rows of 6 or more players).
- The ball must be both caught and thrown again during 1 jump. (is quite difficult for smaller or weaker players)
- Advice:
- This can also involve deducting 1 point in the event of a failed tip instead of starting again at zero.
- This can also involve deducting 1 point in the event of a failed tip instead of starting again at zero.
- 3 against 2 with passing every time.
- Help each other in defense when someone is free.
- The attackers learn to use a man advantage and to finish.
- Speed, precision, good passing and team play are necessary here.
