Basketball drills

Assume the correct position after intake, rebound or score

drawing 5 out (part 1)
  • Player sprints from the corner baseline to the first post.
  • At the first post a drop step and slides towards the second post.
  • From the second post, backward defensive footwork to the third post.
  • At the third pole a dropstep followed by slides to the fourth pole.
  • You do this until you are back at the starting point.
drawing Defensive footwork
  • One row on the baseline/corner and one row in the center circle with ball.
  • Pass to the corner and then run to the same corner and get the ball back at the post.
  • Then there are a number of possibilities such as open-step or crossover and 1 vs 0 to the basket.
  • Adjuster takes care of the rebound.
drawing 1 VS 0 with pass
  • Two players with one ball.
  • Both players have the ball in their hands and start pulling hard to get the ball loose from the other.
  • Best of 3 loser 5 push-ups.
  • Two lines,
    • one a meter behind mid-court,
    • other behind circle on defense side.
  • Two balls in middle
  • Two hard dribbles, jump stop, pass for layup.
  • 4 things you can do after passing:
    • Ball-screen.
    • Screen away.
    • Cut to the basket (example: give and go, or back-cut). Back cut if the defender is denying the pass.
    • V-cut and pop back outside for the return pass and outside shot.
  • Rules without the ball:
    • If you have an under-play (defender sagging off), pop out to spread the defense.
    • If you have an overplay (being denied), backcut.
    • Someone dribbling at you, backcut (except for the weave plays).
    • Fill the open spot when a teammate cuts inside.
    • When someone dribble-penetrates, relocate.
    • Screen away, and pop out.
    • The most important rule is to keep moving.

3 players, 2 balls

  • 2 shoot, 1 goes out, rebound, and pass
  • Same, but now go to your strength, and shoot
  • Same but now go to your cross

Attention:

  • Call names, call for ball => don't pass if they don't call your name

1) On the right side of the ring, players make a zig-zag run with the ball, changing direction at each cone (cross, behind the back, through the legs and spin move).

  • Once at the center line, the player dribbles with the left hand towards the cones #1 here you do a backup dribble and go with a cross-over past the cones and finish with a lay-up.

2) On the left side of the ring, players do a short/explosive zig-zag and sprint from the last pawn to the center line.

  • Once at the center line, they dribble right-handed to cones #2, here they do a backup dribble and crossover past the cones and finish with lay-up.

  • At cones #1 and #2 you can vary with crossover, behind the back, through the legs and spin move
  • Finish with lay-up or short distance shot
