Basketball drills
- The players line up in two groups on the sideline near the halfway line.
- The first 2 players of the red group line up on one side of the field and have the ball.
- One player of the blue team lines up on the other side.
- As soon as the attacking team crosses the centre line, the 2nd player of the blue team runs around the cone in the centre circle and starts defending.
- Attacking players try to score before the 2nd player gets there.
- Player on top attacks the basket.
- Passes along the baseline.
- Ball to corner makes quick extra pass to wing who takes the 3 point shot.
- The player at the corner runs to the basket immediately after the pass.
- Where that gets the ball from the player on the wing on the opposite side works off under the hoop.
- White triangle takes rebound from the 3 point shot.
- Blue player takes own rebound. (Passing clockwise.)
- Setup:
- Per 2 or 3 players a basket.
- Execution: (with 1 hand! other hand on back)

- Then side a little further away.
- Start under the basket.
- Two players pass back and forth in the run to center line....
- At passage center line in man with ball the attacker and goes full dribble to basket.
- Other player is defender and must get in front of man security and defend.
- 21 cone shot exercise, With each score the player walks behind a cone and places it on the side, The exercise is done when all the cones are distributed,
Prerequisites:
- Knowing defensive stance / attacking principle of in-out.
Organization:
- Coach gives pass on spot one (only attack after four passes/four swings)
- Attacker at spot two and three
- In/out move
- First part of the exercise 1vs1; second part 2vs2
- Passing on: offense becomes defense, defense connects and steps in as offense afterwards (stay on same side)
Goal:
- Teach correct defensive position (denial + help defense)
Teaching points:
- Quickly change position when the ball changes sides, read defenses as attackers (backdoor)
- In/out to the bucket, when defending short, get out to 1m outside 3pt line and use backdoor option, jump to the ball as defender
Start under basket, 2 players pass back and forth in the run to center line...at passage center line in man with ball the attacker and goes full dribble to basket. Other player is defender and has to get in front of the man and defend.
Prerequisites:
- to know the defensive position
Organization:
- coach gives pass to spot 1 (only attack after 4 passes/4 swings)
- attacker on spot 2 and 3
- in/out move
- first part of the exercise 1vs1; second part 2vs2
- shuffle through: offense becomes defense, defense connects and joins in as offense afterwards (stay on same side)
Goal:
- To teach the correct defensive position (denial + help defense)
Teaching points:
- Quickly change position when the ball changes sides, read defence as attacker (backdoor)
- In/out to the bucket, when defending short, get out to 1m outside 3pt line and use backdoor option, jump to the ball.
- Player sprints from the corner baseline to the first post.
- At the first post a drop step and slides towards the second post.
- From the second post, backward defensive footwork to the third post.
- At the third pole a dropstep followed by slides to the fourth pole.
- You do this until you are back at the starting point.
- One row on the baseline/corner and one row in the center circle with ball.
- Pass to the corner and then run to the same corner and get the ball back at the post.
- Then there are a number of possibilities such as open-step or crossover and 1 vs 0 to the basket.
- Adjuster takes care of the rebound.
- Two players with one ball.
- Both players have the ball in their hands and start pulling hard to get the ball loose from the other.
- Best of 3 loser 5 push-ups.
- 4 things you can do after passing:
- Ball-screen.
- Screen away.
- Cut to the basket (example: give and go, or back-cut). Back cut if the defender is denying the pass.
- V-cut and pop back outside for the return pass and outside shot.
- Rules without the ball:
- If you have an under-play (defender sagging off), pop out to spread the defense.
- If you have an overplay (being denied), backcut.
- Someone dribbling at you, backcut (except for the weave plays).
- Fill the open spot when a teammate cuts inside.
- When someone dribble-penetrates, relocate.
- Screen away, and pop out.
- The most important rule is to keep moving.
