Hockey drills

  • B runs wide and receives a hard pass from A.
  • B makes an elevator assumption over the bar.
  • Accelerates around the 2 pawns.
  • Finishes with a strike on goal.

  • Turnover exercise with improving conditioning. 
  • Through the axis play out a 2-1 with shot on goal.
  • On violation or goal a 3-3 on the side towards the center line. 
  • A guard pass is mandatory. 
  • 10 seconds for the 2-1 to create a shot and 10 seconds for the 3-3.
  • At guard pass 3-3 the new 2-1 already starts.

  • Simple give & go in 2 ways. 
  • Easy short finishing exercise for beginning training. 
  • Extendable to 2-1.
  • Variant 1 - Pass sideways, vertical run with diagonal pass.
  • Variant 2 - Pass sideways, diagonal run with vertical pass.
  • Variation 3 - Pass sideways, diagonal run with short diagonal pass.
  • Variant 4 - Setup as Variant 3 with a 2-1 in the circle.

  • There is a box of 4 different colored pawns.
  • The players start 5 to 10 meters away from the box (in this case the 23 meter line).
  • The trainer calls out a number of colors in succession.
  • E.g. Blue red orange blue.
  • The players then run to those pawns and then back to where they started.

  • 4 defenders in the (build up)
  • 2 midfielders
  • 3 strikers
  • 3 defenders (opponents) + goalkeeper in circle
  • Play around from the bowl without pressure (can always be added later)
  • The 2 midfielders offer themselves from the axis to the back where the ball is going. 
  • Not being passed to is going to the line and back to the axis. 
  • Not offering on the long passing line. 
  • Being played is opening up and then playing the hanging striker or the winger. 
  • After playing, continue to pass into the guard position.
  • The 2 WINGER strikers offer themselves on the 23m
  • The HANGING striker offers himself in the attack at the head of the circle. 
  • The WINGER striker on the support side looks for scoring position at the far post.

  • Player RED comes out of the square and offers himself to player BLUE.
  • BLUE passes to RED as he offers himself. 
  • Player WHITE pressures RED so it has to accept closed and plays back to BLUE (guard).
  • Player RED makes an acceleration to the left or right next to the square.
  • Player BLUE passes the ball to player RED looking carefully where RED asks for the ball (forehand or backhand).
  • RED takes the ball open and penetrates the circle to finish on goal.
  • TURN TO THE OTHER SIDE.
  • RED JOINS AT STARTING POINT / BLUE JOINS IN THE SQUARE.

  • Against a low press build up with 3 men.
  • 2 centers and 2 wide midfielders + strikers on the back line. 
  • Simple high tempo finishing exercise to practice pass lines.

  • 4 vs 4 across left and right.
  • 3 teams of 4.
  • 4 defenders + goalie vs 4 attackers.
  • Defenders can score points by getting between pawns with ball (dribble).
  • Attackers can score on goal. 
  • 3 x shoot is a penalty ball.

  • Finishing on goal.
  • Everyone stands on the edge of the circle and hits the ball on goal. 
  • This can be done with or without a small run up. 
  • Everyone has 2 balls.

  • Driving with the ball begin to run and pass to player 2. 
  • Player 2 rounds off and runs towards the next pass.
  • After this, finish with backhand.

  • Party form with 2 teams and 1 goalkeeper.
  • If there's an odd number of players then make 1 player (preferably a midfielder) a neutral player who always belongs to the BB team.
  • The right of attack is taken over the 23 meter line by playing three times.
  • The right of attack is lost only when the other side has reached the right. 
  • An interception does not change this.
  • 3 cause penalty corner is a penalty ball (goal is to focus on effectiveness in the circle).
  • 2 x 10 minutes with 5 minutes rest (match situation).
  • Each team can be given an assignment such as full press / half court / put pressure on certain player when he gets the ball to improve strategy and coaching among themselves.
  • Provide enough balls along the lines so that there can be a high ball tempo.
