Korfball drills for technique warming-up

You run back and forth from cone to cone. Thereby different exercises are done. For example, running to the front and back from the back.

  • 10 shots on the wide line
  • 15 through balls
  • 15 pull-aways

Place a number of cones/caps 2 to 3 metres apart. Make two rows of cones and divide the team into two groups.

The exercise is quite simple. Two pawns spinning and one pawn in defensive position back. Then repeat the exercise again, so two pawns forward and one pawn back.

Complete team: One person is the ticker, and must tick off everyone. The other people have 2 balls at their disposal which they can pass around. You are not allowed to be tapped when you have the ball in your hands. So if the ticker is running to someone, you have to throw the ball to this player. Of course you are not allowed to hold on to the ball endlessly.

Exercise for the quick step, reaction time and coordination. Be the trainer in the middle with the children in a circle around you. For example 5 children, 4 x basket and 4 x ball.

Children walk around you in a circle in the direction that you indicate, you can also suddenly change direction for variety. Then dribble on the spot. When the trainer calls YES, the kids have to grab a ball as fast as possible and try to score on the basket. 1 child has no ball and is out. Then 3 balls and again, until there is a winner.

When the defence has intercepted the ball, they first pass it back to the trainers.

Nice variation of the original 'tag'. One child is the ticker. The rest runs away. The catcher tries to tag someone. When a child is tagged, he or she puts his or her hand on the spot that was tagged. Now the ticked child is the new ticker. If another child is ticked, he may take his hand away from his spot.

For example:
Child A taps child B on the shoulder. Child B puts his hand on the shoulder and tries to tap the next one. He taps child C on the upper arm and can again release his hand and just run away. Child C puts his had on his upper arm and starts tapping.

Start line-up
Two groups at the first two pawns.

Exercise
The first one in line runs to the hoop and goes through the hoop from the bottom, so the hoop goes over their head. Then he goes through the defense posture to pawn two and turns around it 4 times. Finally, he runs to pawn 3 and scores before he can run back to pawn 1 and tap the next one in line.

Defensive stance:
Backwards and through the knees with your arm up.

Distance setup:
Hoop from pawn 1: 5 meter.
Pawn 2 from hoop: 5 meter.
Pawn 3 from pawn 2: 5 meter.
Pole from cone 3: 4 meter.

Starting situation

The game is played by 2 teams who play against each other between 2 baskets positioned about 15 metres apart. The two teams consist of four players or at least three players. Larger teams are not recommended due to the limited space available for free running.

Goal of the game

Which team scores the most goals? Try to conquer the ball to attack, try to get in scoring position by playing together and try to score.

Game rules

You are not allowed to run with the ball, you are not allowed to play alone, the ball is not allowed to be taken out of the hands of the opponent or team-mate. Other rules like defensive shooting or cutting can be omitted.

Approach

Divide the group into two parties of equal number of players. The trainer can play along with the side in possession of the ball to make sure the game runs smoothly. The participation of two trainers is stimulating for the players and gives them the opportunity to make corrections during the game.

In the course of the game, rules can be added which lead to the targeted practice of basic skills. Examples are:

  • You may only throw with one hand and goal attempts are always made with 2 hands
  • Players are assigned special tasks, players who help and players who try to score.

What can you see?

  • The novice player understands korfball immediately
  • There is a lot of opportunity to play korfball, so the basic skills like free running, attacking and defending are taught as well
  • While playing, korfball techniques are discussed
  • It can be read from the game what needs to be practised specifically in simplified game elements

Inshort: exercises in catching balls that bounce or roll at the right moment.

Organisation: one ball per pair or trio.

(a) The numbers 1 and 2 of each pair stand next to each other. Number 1 rolls the ball a few metres away. Number 2 has to get the ball, pick it up and throw it back as fast as possible. Change after 5 games. Make sure the players 'get' the ball as soon as possible by putting one hand on it as soon as possible.

b ) As a., but now number 1 throws the ball away with a small curve, in such a way that it bounces on the ball at a distance of about 4 metres (and then makes a bounce of about half a metre high). Number 2 must try to get the ball as soon as possible after the bounce.

c ) As b., but now number 1 drops the ball from a height of 1.5 metres just in front of number 2. He/she has to try again to get the ball as soon as possible after the bounce. It will appear that almost everyone lets the ball rise a little and then catches it. Wrong (in the meantime an opponent can quickly put his/her hand on the ball). At the very moment that the ball is about to come up, the hand should be placed on the ball Take that ball!

e ) Three teams, the ball stays in the middle. He rolls the ball a few meters away. As soon as the ball is loose, the other two may run. Who has the ball first? Change after 3 times.

d ) As d., but now the ball is thrown by the declarer with a small curve, in such a way that the ball bounces on a distance of about 4 meters (and would make a bounce of about half a meter high). Which of the two 'workers' is first to get the ball by putting his hand on it?

f ) As e., but now from under a basket. The one who gets the ball first may make a turnover ball.

g ) Like b., but now with threes. Who reacts the fastest?
