Volleyball drills for technique setting / overarm technique
- 2 balls per pair.
- One throws the ball, the other plays back the BH.
- Throw in the 2nd ball when the 1st one comes back.
- Together they keep 2 balls in the air:
- So twice as much ball contact as when working with 1 ball.
- Variations/expansion: throw something to the left/right (move > stand still), throw something short/long.
- Pairs facing each other with a net in between
- There is a cone under the net
- Players play the ball overhead in front of themselves and then pass the ball to others
- After playing, they tap the cone under the net and get back to their feet
- Passing over:
- Ball always goes to the middle player
- Overhand pass. Middle player must play backwards and turn around immediately!
- Pass underhand. Middle player must play backwards and turn around immediately!
- Peppering where the pass goes to the middle player who sets it up.
- Diving balls indicated by middle player
-
- Plays the ball overhand to number 3,
- Is a reserve & takes the place of number 3,
- Passes to number 4
- Catch the ball and join behind number 5,
- Passes the ball to number 4, catches the ball and joins behind number 5, plays the ball overhand to number 7,
- Is a reserve & takes the place of number 7
- Passes to number 8,
- Catch the ball and rejoin number 1.
Addition: after catching the ball, touch the wall.
(In the 'overhand' rows/ at the passers if necessary reserve players)
- first explain the technique (triangle, above the head, 10 fingers play the ball)
- Two pairs with a net in between and only play overhead.
- Let the pairs rotate (always new pairs).
- Spread over 3m line.
- Pass the ball in a zigzag and follow through. See picture
- Later play underhand, only overhand.
- One side of the net underhand, other side overhand.
- One side of the net underhand, other side overhand.
- With this exercise the players learn how to play 'smart'. just over the net or in the back corners.
- The field is divided into two halves. On both halves there is a row of players.
- On the other side of the net are hoops, on the places where normally no players stand.
- The players throw the ball in front of themselves and play the ball overhand into the hoops. For every bale in the hoop they get one point, the team with the most points has won. (addition: the trainer plays the ball and the players play into the hoops).
The aim is to shift focus, so don't dwell on it for too long but be ready for the next action straight away.
- Make 3 teams with 1 regular volleyball and 1 tennis ball.
- The one with the tennisball is the lummel (player 2) and stands in the middle.
- Player 1 plays the ball to the dummy, the dummy throws the tennis ball to player 1.
- The dummy plays the ball to player 1 and player 1 throws the tennisball to the dummy again.
- After this player 1 plays the ball to player 3, player 3 plays the ball to the lummel, and the lummel throws the tennisball to player 3.
- to player 3. The dummy plays the ball to player 3 again and gets the tennisball back. etc...
- requires concentration of the players and fast switching.
- If you don't have tennisballs you can also use 2 balls.
- 3 teams.
- 1 is at the net,
- 2 in the back and
- 3 in the middle.
- 1 plays bra to 2,
- 2 plays bra to 3,
- 3 plays bra back to 2 and then turns around,
- 2 plays bra to 1,
- 1 plays bra to 3 etc etc
- Pay attention to this and after a while change the middle man.
- Ditto,
- Only now the middle man doesn't turn and we play the ball backwards.
- So 1 plays to 2,
- 2 plays backwards to 3 and
- 3 plays the ball to 1,
- 1 again to 2 etc. etc.
- Pay special attention to the position of the middle man!
- Again, pay attention to this.
- Player A throws ball over the net.
- Player B or C passes ball to other player
- The other player quickly runs to the net and sets up the ball for the same player who passed.
- This player tries to get a pawn off the bench with overhand play or a hitting move.
- Change after 5 balls

On your own:
- Throwing the ball straight up above your head. Using legs and arms. Catch the ball.
- Keep the ball in the air, it doesn't matter how. Let's get it warm.
- Play the ball 5x (or more) with overhand technique
- Play 5x (or more) the ball with underhand technique
Per 2 players:
- 10x throwing and catching the ball with overhand technique

- Pass the ball correctly 10 times, the other player returns underhand. Vice versa.
